How We Help
How Does Columbus Addiction Treatment Work at Parkdale Center?
Some individuals living with substance use disorder require 24/7 care at an inpatient facility. Many of these people have high levels of illicit substances in their bodies and need constant supervision while they undergo detoxification.
Such care is imperative for many people, but we recognize that it isn’t always feasible for others. You may have a high-stakes, demanding job you cannot abandon, for instance. If you are able to work through substance use disorder without round-the-clock monitoring, Parkdale Center can set up an outpatient treatment plan that allows you to fulfill your obligations and receive care at the same time.
The first order of business for anyone seeking treatment at a Columbus drug rehab center is the safe cessation of substance use. Stopping substance use often causes withdrawal symptoms, which can vary from mild to severe. Some individuals are unable to handle withdrawal symptoms without going through detox at an inpatient facility.
Our center does not offer that, but we can give you the tools needed to manage withdrawal at home. After a thorough initial medical examination, our staff will recommend a care plan to minimize withdrawal symptoms and get you on the first step toward recovery. We’ll provide you with educational materials, medications to reduce uncomfortable symptoms, and, if needed, therapy appointments to talk through withdrawal sensations.
Clients who successfully manage withdrawal might immediately enroll in our Partial Hospitalization Program, or PHP. PHP is the most time-intensive level of care for outpatient clients. It does not require you to visit an actual hospital, but it may compel you to attend at least 15 hours of addiction treatment per week at our facility. PHP treatment plans vary by client, but they usually consist of a combination of one-on-one therapy, group therapy, life skills workshops, and appointments with doctors—both medical and psychiatric.
Clients who may not be able to commit to our PHP may instead find success with Parkdale Center’s IOP—Intensive Outpatient Program. IOP clients must spend at least nine hours each week receiving outpatient care, which largely consists of the same therapeutic interventions used in our PHP. Consider an IOP a step down in care from a PHP.
Routine outpatient care works best for clients whose substance use disorder is mild. Additionally, a stable and supportive home environment is crucial for client success at this stage. Only a few hours per week at our facility is required for regular or routine outpatient clients, who are well into transitioning back to their normal routines and lives.
The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the popularity of telehealth and showed many people how effective it can be. We have implemented virtual treatment for clients in outpatient addiction care and found it to be highly successful in many cases. Telehealth clients have access to the same evidence-based therapies and care offered to in-person clients, including group sessions and medication management.
We take online privacy and security seriously for the sake of our clients. Telehealth treatment for substance use disorder isn’t necessarily for everyone, but it often works well for licensed professionals whose work may not allow them to take in-person therapy several times per week.

Substance Abuse Treatment
Conditions We Treat
Parkdale Center’s staff has experience treating clients addicted to a wide array of substances, such as:
- Prescription drugs
- Opioids
- Methamphetamine
- Cocaine
- Heroin
- LSD and other psychedelics
- Marijuana
- Alcohol
- Nicotine
The importance of treating co-occurring mental health conditions, referred to as dual-diagnosis, cannot be overstated. Individuals living with one or more mental health conditions are more likely than the median person to have a substance use disorder. The opposite is also true, and the correlation is not coincidental.
The symptoms of many mental illnesses—in particular, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, borderline personality disorder, and schizophrenia, to name a few—cause many individuals to self-medicate with illicit substances. In turn, the side effects of certain substances can exacerbate the symptoms of mental illness.
Over time, individuals must use increased amounts of substances to achieve the same sensation or risk withdrawal. The severity of substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health conditions can heighten over time as they feed into each other. For the best chance at sustained, long-lasting sobriety and recovery, clients must address all conditions that may lead to substance cravings. A no-stones-unturned approach is what our clients need and deserve.
