Mike Goodman, one of our dedicated Recovery Specialists, has been sober since May 25, 2017. Before finding recovery, he spent 25 years serving as a Firefighter and Medic with the Merrillville and City of Gary Fire Departments. In November 2016, a career-ending cervical spinal injury placed him on medical disability, leading to his official retirement from firefighting.
The last decade of his career was marked by a battle with alcoholism, depression, and suicidal ideation. Hitting rock bottom became the turning point that led him to recovery. As he embraced sobriety, Mike discovered Parkdale, or as he calls it—“The Mansion of Miracles”— through various AA meetings, two of which were held here. Witnessing the profound transformations happening within these walls, he felt an undeniable calling to be part of the Parkdale team.
On April 1, 2021, Mike officially joined our staff, bringing with him a deep passion for recovery and personal growth. Since then, he has earned his CAPRC II certification and continues to expand his knowledge. Known for his inspiring lectures on spirituality, uplifting notes left behind on napkins, and unwavering encouragement, Mike strives to positively impact everyone he meets.
He warmly encourages you to embrace your recovery at the Mansion of Miracles where his personal mantras—”Soaring in Spirituality” and “Drowning in Gratitude” is evident in everything he does.
