Ethan E. Bickelhaupt, MD, is a graduate of the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. He completed his residency at the Menninger School of Psychiatry in Topeka, Kansas, and practiced general family medicine for 12 years before transitioning to general adult psychiatry. He later subspecialized and became board certified in Geriatric Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, Pain Medicine, and Forensic Medicine.
After leaving private practice in 2006, Dr. Bickelhaupt taught Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Kansas and University of Missouri Schools of Medicine through the VA System. In 2007, he moved to Chicago, where he continued his work in Addiction Medicine after completing treatment for chemical dependency. In 2010, he earned a Master of Medical Management (MMM), an MBA-equivalent degree for physicians, from the University of Southern California (USC), with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship.
In October 2015, Dr. Bickelhaupt became the Director of Behavioral Health at Parkdale Center in Chesterton, Indiana, an addiction treatment program serving medical professionals and other professionals. He was part of the development team that pursued and received CARF certification for addiction treatment services and served in this role through April 2017.
In May 2017, Dr. Bickelhaupt returned to Kansas, where he served as an Attending Physician at Osawatomie State Hospital, working with individuals with chronic mental illness and substance use disorders. During his time there, he served as President of the Medical Staff and as a member of the Kansas Governor’s Advisory Council in Behavioral Health.
Dr. Bickelhaupt is currently board certified in General and Geriatric Psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and in Addiction Medicine through the American Board of Preventive Medicine. His current work includes serving as Medical Director of Clinical Associates in Lenexa, Kansas, where he treats patients of all ages and supervises graduate nursing education.
Dr. Bickelhaupt has recently returned to Parkdale Center, now a division of Bradford Health Services, as its Medical Director. In this role, he provides clinical leadership and supervision to the clinical staff and conducts comprehensive assessments incorporating both addiction medicine and psychiatry. We are pleased to welcome Dr. Bickelhaupt back to Parkdale and look forward to the experience and expertise he brings to our team.
